The History of Splinters

Splinters is a fast growing Carpentry and Joinery business, started in 1999 by Mick Derbyshire, based in Newquay but covering the whole of Cornwall.

Mick served a five year apprenticeship in the North West of England whilst attending College to gain his City & Guilds qualification in Carpentry & Joinery. After a few years gaining valuable experience, he joined the army and for the next seven years he served with the Royal Engineers, travelling and working all over the world.

On leaving the army Mick decided to move to Newquay to be near to his family and to start up his much dreamed about business, Splinters. Things have developed from the early days of Mick working by himself, in his Kangoo, to today with his experienced workforce building an enviable customer base all around Cornwall.

From the out-set, Mick has endeavoured to provide a high quality product at a reasonable price, working with his customers to produce exactly the end product that they wanted or, more often than not, a much improved version of it.
